Very few men have had such a profound effect in growing the sport of off road motorcycling in Canada as Warren Thaxter. His influence runs deep touching almost every type of off road, trail and adventure riding currently happening in Ontario. Warren was constantly introducing ideas and concepts that were way ahead of their time and are only now being recognized as best practice.
His biggest contribution to the sport is as a builder. After 33 years in the automotive industry, Warren retired to become completely immersed in the motorcycle world. He envisioned a future of organized, paid trail rides in Ontario starting in 1987 with OCMC’s Algonquin 2-Day.
As the concept of organized trail riding caught on, Warren saw the need for a provincial organization to represent off road riders’ rights and along with several others, founded the Ontario Federation of Trail Riders (OFTR) in 1992. The OFTR Trail Ride Series was established and the OFTR continues to ensure off-road riders have access to some of the best riding areas in the world.
Warren was also was a founder of Offroad Ontario, a competition organization and he hosts a yearly cross country race in that series. He has been a regular columnist for Inside Motorcycles magazine since its inception. His writing has influenced countless Canadians who were either involved in the sport or riders who were considering it.
He has also served on the boards of the CMA, MCC, CMHOF and numerous clubs.
Warren Thaxter was inducted to The Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame November 7th, 2015

Meet our Level 3 Competition Judge
Cheif Judge: Bob McKay, McKay’s Cycle Creations
Bob McKay has been working on motorcycles and working in the motorcycle business since 1970. Customizing motorcycles has been his main focus and passion. He has built and modified hundreds of one of a kind custom motorcycles. Over the last 40 plus years many of Bob’s creations have been featured in national and international motorcycle magazines since his first feature in Street Chopper magazine 1974.
Bob’s career in the motorcycle industry has not been limited to just building custom machines. He has pretty well had his hands in all aspects of the business – certified motorcycle mechanic – service manager of a multi-line dealership – owning and managing custom shops – owned and operated his own paint shop – designing parts for well know companies like Custom Chrome and Drag Specialties – owning Bob McKay’s Harley Davidson Inc with his wife Dianne from 1986 till when they sold the business in 2002, so they could concentrate on the true passion of building custom bikes and custom restorations of Harley-Davidson’s.

Toronto International Motorcycle SPRINGSHOW
Bar Hodgson to unveil exotic “Vincent Black Chopper” complete with ‘American Pickers’ 1948 Engine Find !
A special unveiling of the most ‘Far-Out’ custom Vincent motorcycle yet will take place on opening day of the 2015 Toronto International Spring Motorcycle Show at the Toronto International Centre. The “Vincent Black Chopper” is the latest acquisition project of motorcycle builder and collector, and producer of the SPRINGSHOW, Bar Hodgson. The Vincent Black Chopper will be the feature bike in the prestigious ‘Bikes of the Century’ display in Hall 2.
How the completed Vincent Black Chopper came to be is an international odyssey beginning with the acquisition of the rolling chassis at the National Vincent Rally in Colorado in 2012. The monoshock curved backbone bike was custom built by Redneck Engineering of South Carolina and although the bike was complete when seen at the rally it could only be acquired without the engine. The quest for the replacement engine started with a missed opportunity at the Daytona auction which saw the perfect Vincent engine sold and shipped to Germany. Prior to that this very engine was found by the American Pickers on a famous episode of their TV series (episode 36, California Dreamin’), and it came to be known as ‘The Pickers Engine’. A year later Bar saw a photo of that same engine (it’s unique in that it is extensively and highly polished – very unusual for a Vincent engine) in the background of a photo in Fritz Egli’s shop in Switzerland. Bar made a deal to acquire the totally dismantled V-Twin and shipped it to Canada, where the engine was repaired and assembled by noted Vincent Specialist, Mike White, and the final reassembly of the Vincent Black Chopper was performed by noted Vincent builder, Bar Hodgson. The result is a perfect pairing of modern design and classic machinery, not to mention its head-turning stunning appearance.
Although the design features are too numerous to mention (spec sheet available at www.supershowevents.com) worth noting is that this chopper is built in the “digger” style, the rake is 50 degrees with a tubular springer front end and 18” Weld Forge Wire wheels. The ‘Pickers’ engine is a 1948 Vincent HRD 1000cc Rapide with dual carbs and pipes. Be there for the unveiling opening day, Saturday, March 21st.
